The Turmeric and Health Newsletter for September 2025

Welcome to my September Newsletter.

AC Healthy Solutions July 2025 Newsletter | AC Healthy Solutions

I hope that you are fit and well and have not developed webbed feet or started to rust from all this rain that we’ve been having! I have to say that I was amazed that there was actually better weather in the UK on my visit than you had here in Australia. English summers are not usually known for their warm and sunny days, but I was extremely lucky and although I would not call it a heatwave in the UK, the temperatures were from 19⁰ - 24⁰C, which for them is balmy weather. So, I was very happy and not a day of rain whilst I was there. It was wonderful to catch up with all my family and to get to meet my two nieces in person for the first time. I spent a few days in Wales with my best mate – we met in the first year of high school, so we have known each other for a very loooong time!! That was excellent fun, especially as we stayed at the Treffidian Hotel, which was a favourite of my parents, so a sentimental visit as well. Trips on my sister’s narrow boat, a visit to Cosgrove Air Museum (especially for Mike), plus Cadbury Chocolate World and eating copious amounts of British cod roe and chips (not forgetting the mushy peas), scotch eggs, tongue and chicken Balti and yes, I did get my faggots. 😃😃 It was all over way too soon, but lots of wonderful memories of family and friends. I would love to go more often, but the travel is a killer, the journey home was 50 hours doorstep to doorstep (allowing for time differences) but Mike and I survived. Lexi is still over there with Darcy and a bit more travelling in the UK and Europe before they head home. So, it’s back to work for me.

I mustn’t forget to give a big Thank You to Nan who covered my markets and the phone/online order whilst I was away. I very much appreciate all she did, which made it a lot easier for me knowing that my customers where being so well looked after whilst I was on my travels.

With Spring just around the corner, I thought that I would look at how turmeric could help with all those seasonal allergies. Plus, a good slaw salad that you could try at any time of the year. I look forward to seeing you at the markets in the next few weeks. NOTE: there is an extra Tuncurry market this Saturday 30th August. I will be there.

Can Turmeric Help with your Allergic Reactions?

Seasonal allergies | AC Healthy Solutions

Although I am very lucky and don’t really suffer too much with allergic reactions, other than my over response to mozzies and such, I know that for many people the start of Spring when all the pollen is about is the start of a miserable time. Given that curcumin in turmeric is an excellent natural anti-inflammatory, I was curious as to what the medical research had to say about the use of turmeric to help alleviate the suffering caused by allergies. This, is what I found:

Turmeric, particularly its active compound curcumin may help with allergies due to its anti-inflammatory and immune-modulating properties. Studies suggest it can help regulate the immune system, potentially reducing allergic reactions.

  • Anti-inflammatory Effects:

Curcumin, the main component of turmeric, is known for its potent anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation plays a significant role in allergic reactions, and reducing inflammation could help alleviate symptoms.

  • Immune System Modulation:

Turmeric, including its various components, may help balance the immune system, particularly the Th1/Th2 response, which is often dysregulated in allergic conditions.

  • Histamine Reduction:

Curcumin has been shown to inhibit histamine release from mast cells, which are key players in allergic reactions. This could potentially reduce symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, and itching.

  • Reduced Allergic Response:

Animal studies have shown that curcumin can inhibit allergic responses, including the production of certain inflammatory molecules and immunoglobulins (IgE, IgG1) that are elevated during allergic reactions.

  • Food Allergy:

A mouse model of food allergy showed that turmeric significantly reduced allergic symptoms, suggesting potential benefits for food allergies.

  • Allergic Rhinitis (Hay Fever):

Some studies, including one in humans, suggest that turmeric and curcumin may improve nasal airflow and reduce symptoms of allergic rhinitis.

  • Other Allergic Conditions:

Turmeric's anti-inflammatory and immune-modulating effects could be beneficial for other Th2-mediated allergic disorders like atopic dermatitis and asthma. (See my earlier article on that on my website)

In summary: Turmeric, particularly the curcumin, shows promise as a potential natural remedy for allergies due to its anti-inflammatory and immune-modulating properties. As always, it’s important to consult with a healthcare professional before using turmeric for allergies, (or anything else) especially if you have any health concerns.

I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease four years ago. For over two years, I relied on prescription medications and therapies, but unfortunately, the symptoms continued to worsen. My mobility declined, tremors increased, and I experienced growing fatigue and discomfort that affected my daily life. Last year, out of desperation and hope, I decided to try an herbal treatment program from NaturePath Herbal Clinic. Honestly, I was skeptical at first, but within a few months of starting the treatment, I began to notice real changes. My energy improved, the discomfort eased, and I felt stronger and more capable in my daily life. Incredibly, I also regained much of my stamina, balance, and confidence. It’s been a life-changing experience I feel more…
