The Turmeric and Health Newsletter for November 2024

Updated: Nov 7

Hi everyone and Welcome to my November Newsletter

AC Healthy Solutions November 2024 Newsletter | AC Healthy Solutions

I hope that you are well. I know that my Newsletter is late this month but I’m only just home from my amazing travels in India. The sights and sounds of India really are on another level. I knew that there were a lot of people in Delhi, but I learnt that there are 33 million of them, so more people live in Delhi than in the WHOLE of Australia - that is just mind blowing - though I have to say that when you are out and about in a tuk tuk and the traffic is whizzing past you at a few centimetres away, you realise just how crazy the whole system is. As far as I can see Indian’s consider road rules merely a suggestion rather than a rule to be obeyed. But’ somehow, they all seem to get along. I would hate to have to learn to drive in one of their big cities.

However, survive we did and the forts, the palaces, the dancing, the dessert, the food, travelling by train where all such amazing experiences. Add to that a visit to the Taj Mahal, which really does live up to the hype. Yes, it was a holiday of a lifetime and to be able to spend it with my daughter was extra special, as was the dawn balloon ride that we did, and to be greeted by the locals when we landed was fun. So many different sights and sounds, tastes and feelings. We were with a great group of women and our team leader Shrishti, was an absolute pocket rocket, so much knowledge, passion and joy, she really took the tour to a next level. Would I do it again, absolutely….though I need to recover from this trip first. 😊 😊

At one of the temples we visited, they fed up to 50,000 people a day, all for free, run by volunteers. The also offer a free pharmacy and doctors. I noted that they were using turmeric for dressing wounds, and I thought that that was an interesting use of turmeric, and one which we often don’t consider. So that is what my article is about this month.

Today is the 1st Nov, which is Diwali in India, and is more like our Christmas, when they celebrate coming together as a family and the giving of gifts. So Happy Diwali and I hope to see you at the markets this month.

Wound Healing Effects of Curcumin

Wound Healing Effects of Curcumin | AC Healthy Solutions

Wound healing is a complex process that consists of several phases that range from coagulation, inflammation, accumulation of radical substances, to proliferation, formation of fibrous tissues and collagen, contraction of wound with formation of granulation tissue and scar tissue. Since antiquity, vegetable substances have been used as phytotherapeutic (plant healing) agents for wound healing, and more recently natural substances of vegetable origin have been studied with the attempt to show their beneficial effect on wound treatment. Curcumin, the most active component of rhizome of Curcuma longa L. (common name: turmeric), has been studied for many years due to its bio-functional properties, especially antioxidant, radical scavenger, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activities, which play a crucial role in the wound healing process. Moreover, curcumin stimulated the production of the growth factors involved in the wound healing process, and so curcumin also accelerated the management of wound restoration. As well as its anti-inflammatory properties, Turmeric is also a natural antiseptic. In some countries, Turmeric has traditionally been applied externally to wounds and skin damage.

You can apply turmeric directly on the wounds in generous quantities after cleaning it with water and peroxide. This acts as an excellent natural medicine. You can simply apply the turmeric powder (it will help reduce the flow of exudate), or you can mix it into a thick paste. To do this you can mix it with warm water, my daughter used coconut oil very successfully or you could even use a good quality honey. Both the coconut oil and the honey will also aid in the healing process. If required, you can then cover the wound with a gauze and bandage.

Not only can turmeric be used on humans, but it is very effective for both dogs and horses. After cleansing the wound, simply make up a paste and apply to the cuts or abrasions. With a dog it would be best to apply a “collar of shame”, otherwise they will probably lick it off – not that that would do them any harm, but it wouldn’t be as effective at healing that way.

One of my customers used Health2all Turmeric to aid in the healing of a large cut on her horse’s flank after it had been in a nasty accident. She had tried many things, but Health2all Turmeric was what really helped.

So not only is your Health2all Turmeric excellent for your aches and pains but it’s a great way to heal any cuts and abrasions.
